Edmonton, May 5, 2016: Our thoughts and prayers are with our municipal partners, the residents, first responders, and the community at large in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.
”If Albertans want to help out, the best way to do so is a monetary donation to the Canadian Red Cross. The Red Cross can be counted on to use these resources wisely and for the maximum benefit of those affected,” said AUMA President Lisa Holmes.

Communities in northern Alberta, as well as the Edmonton area, will be opening their doors to accommodate the hundreds of residents who have had to evacuate. Municipalities will be working with community organizations and the Red Cross to ensure supports are available. As we have seen in previous emergencies like the summer floods and other forest fires, Alberta is a resilient province and the federal, provincial and municipal governments will work in partnership to assist with the long term recovery and rebuilding efforts.
Founded in 1905, the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association represents all of Alberta’s urban municipalities, including cities, towns, villages, summer villages and specialized municipalities, representing over 85% of Albertans. A dynamic and evolving association, AUMA advocates on behalf of members to provincial and federal government, as well as other stakeholder organizations.
