Help Okotoks Become the Next Kraft Hockeyville!!

Okotoks Hockeyville 2016We are very excited to announce that Okotoks has been nominated to be the next Kraft Hockeyville. The winner of the Hockeyville contest wins $100,000 in arena upgrades and gets to play host to an NHL exhibition game next season. This is a great opportunity for the kids in Okotoks to show how much community spirit we can generate!

Our first goal is to raise awareness and get as much support from the community as possible. You can help by posting pictures, videos and stories on social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) using #KHV_PasonCentArena. You can like our Facebook page: Okotoks Hockeyville 2016, follow us on twitter @OkotoksKHV and Instagram @OkotoksKHV. This is the important part…remember to put #KHV_PasonCentArena on every post!

Kraft Hockeyville judges will be tracking this hashtag to gauge support in the community and will use this as a basis for which cities will get into the top 10. On MARCH 5 the top 10 cities will be named and will move on to the first voting round on March 13, then the top 2 finalists will go to the second voting round on March 20, 2016.

That means we have eight weeks to show Canada why Okotoks is HOCKEYVILLE!! There is your challenge…now show your community spirit and hockey pride!

How can your school get involved?

  • Have all the kids design a poster showing why Okotoks deserves to be named Kraft Hockeyville 2016. Posters to bring awareness on the voting date (First Round is March 13, 2016 @ 9:00am.) would also be great. Getting the kids to do this in groups will show teamwork, but individual posters are great too!
  • Create a theme song for Okotoks Hockeyville.
  • Make every Friday a Jersey day for the next few months. Take pictures and video and post them on social media to get the conversation going! Remember the hashtag on all posts!!
  • Take a video and upload to social media; entire classes, groups, individuals, explaining what community spirit means and how sport (in particular hockey) is so important to them and the town. Why does Okotoks deserve to win?
  • Have students donate a Kraft Dinner box to make a pyramid tower. All boxes would be donated later to the food bank. Let’s see which school gets the most!
  • On voting day have a voting station where students (over the age of 14) and staff can vote.
  • Post pictures, statuses and tweets using #KHV_PasonCentArena every time!

We appreciate everything you can do to help make this a reality! Hockey is such an integral part of the Okotoks Culture, with your help we can do this!!
