HCRCWA: Current Activity to Reduce Crime in our Area

On January 31, 2018, the Foothills County Council invited R.C.M.P. representatives to speak with us about “enhanced policing.” Due to an increase in property crimes, we want to have the discussion about what it would take to reduce the criminal activity in our area. Our municipality is working with the High Country Rural Crime Watch Association and Okotoks and Foothills Rural Crime Watches to plan a community meeting for April 10, 2018, open to all our members (more info soon). In addition, our Council is looking at the cost and effect of hiring one to three officers specifically to work on crime reduction in our area.

Our thanks go to those who attended the January 31 meeting: Inspector Shane Ramteemal (R.C.M.P., Edmonton) and our RCMP detachment COs: Dwayne Helgeson (Turner Valley), Darren Turnbull and Cory Forsyth (Okotoks), Robin Alexander (High River) and Roger Waidson (Airdrie).

Below are recently compiled crime stats for the whole municipality, including information from our three RCMP detachments: Turner Valley, Okotoks and High River:

Recent crime: We learned that in less than twenty-four hours after a mailbox theft, the Turner Valley R.C.M.P. caught the thieves and have laid 102 charges against Randy Boehner (of Calgary) and Tamara Villneff (of High River). They were seen throwing mail out of a car window, and the police subsequently found stolen letters in their car that the police are now returning to the intended recipients. If you had any mail stolen, you should contact the R.C.M.P. in Turner Valley (403) 933-7227.
