Ground Breaking for Joint Government of Alberta-FSD Central Office Facility Launches Construction

Representatives for Alberta Infrastructure, Foothills School Division, and the Town of High River gathered on the site of the new building at the corner of 4th Avenue S.W. and Macleod Trail in High River for a ceremonial ground breaking.

The facility will replace the former Government Building that sat on the site and FSD’s current Division Office at 120 5th Avenue S.W. Both buildings were severely damaged by the June 2013 flooding.

The ground breaking marks a new beginning and another giant step forward in High River’s recovery. Excavation is set to begin the week of November 30th.

When the three-story facility is completed — tentatively scheduled for December 2016 — FSD will lease space in the three-story building. A lack of space has been an issue for FSD’s current Division Office for many years and the flood only made the situation worse. It didn’t make fiscal sense to develop the basement offices in a building that was already too small to meet current needs.

Following the flood it was very important to FSD’s Board of Trustees that our central office remain in High River. This new facility will also address our need for more space in a modern building with extensive flood mitigation measures built into the design.

FSD looks forward to watching the new facility take shape!
