Gleichen, Alta. – RCMP in Gleichen are seeking public assistance for information in a hit and run investigation.
On Feb. 1, 2016 at approximately 7:50 a.m., the Gleichen RCMP were dispatched to Highway 842, near Cluny, approximately ten kilometres south of Highway 1. Upon arrival, RCMP located a deceased male on the west side of the highway. The deceased had sustained substantial impact injuries, consistent with being struck by a motor vehicle.
The deceased, Steven Weaselhead was 31 years old. He was last reported as being on his way home from a social gathering.
On Feb. 2, 2016, the Calgary medical examiners office conducted an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
RCMP are renewing public plea one month after Steven Weaselhead’s death. We are looking to speak to anyone who was traveling on Highway 842 between the hours of 9 p.m. on Jan. 31, 2016 and 1 a.m. on Feb. 1, 2016.
The driver of the offending vehicle would likely have known they struck something, but due to dark stretch of highway, may not have seen anything at the time. The investigation to date suggests the vehicle involved would have sustained some damage.
