Gleichen RCMP investigating multi vehicle crash on Hwy 1


On June 28th 2015,  at approximately 11:50 p.m., Gleichen RCMP along with County of Wheatland Fire and EMS, responded to a multi vehicle collision that occurred on highway 1 east of secondary highway 901 intersection near Gleichen, Alberta. The collision occurred when a pick up was travelling west in the east bound lanes and struck an oncoming pickup.  Several vehicles stopped at the scene to provide assistance to the drivers when moments later a  tractor trailer collided with the original collision and several of the assisting vehicles.  In total 6 vehicles were involved.
The driver of the west bound pick up, a 38 year old Calgary Man, is currently in Foothills Hospital suffering from serious injuries.  The driver of the east bound pick up, a 30 year old female, was also treated and released from Strathmore Hospital.
The matter is still being investigated, to determine if other factors contributed to this collision.  There were no other injuries reported.
Gleichen RCMP along with RCMP Traffic Services Collision Analyst are investigating the collisions.
