On January 22nd, FSD held its second community consultation meeting — with over 170 parents participating in the evening — to address enrolment pressures in our Okotoks schools. We presented five boundary scenarios for consideration and also received some really well thought out alternatives. In addition, we have received hundreds of responses to our online survey.
Thank you to all of the stakeholders who attended the consultation meetings and/or completed the online survey. Thanks also to École Okotoks Junior High School for hosting the meetings and the many FSD staff who helped facilitate.
The division’s executive leadership team met during the first week of February to review and evaluate all of the input, and then discuss with Okotoks school administrators and Trustees. We recognize that there are no clear and easy solutions that will satisfy everyone concerned. However, in view of the current situation in Okotoks – space challenges in many of our schools, a continued influx of young families and a lack of land for new schools – we must take steps to address the situation so that we can continue to provide students with quality learning environments and a great education.
Should the Board’s decision entail changes to the current school boundaries for 2015-2016, we will aim to notify school families no later than this April.
