FortisAlberta Underground Cable Improvements Scheduled Throughout the Summer

HIGH RIVER, AB: Starting this summer until October 2016, FortisAlberta will be improving their underground cable networks in S.W. High River in order to improve electricity service to customers.

More than 16,600 metres of underground power line will be rejuvenated by injecting it with silicone in order to extend its life by another 40 years. At the same time, other key elements of the line will be upgraded or replaced.

This process has a minimal environmental impact and helps to avoid costly emergency repairs where a great deal of cable might have to be dug up disturbing the landscape. Additionally, this process requires only short periods of outages (approximately five minutes) for customers.

This process may involve digging up small sections of the cable and crews will make every effort not to disturb the landscaping around residences.

FortisAlberta will be delivering notices directly to the residents that may be affected by this work and will notify customers if there is a possibility that crews will disturb any vegetation or landscaping. FortisAlberta will remediate the areas requiring excavation to the best of their ability once the work is completed.
