CALGARY, AB – On January 30th, Wildrose Leader Heather Forsyth released the following statement on news the cost of the Federal Building has soared to $410 million.

“Once again, Premier Jim Prentice has said one thing, but done another. The Premier promised to not waste any more money on the $350 million Federal Building, but now we’ve learned the cost of this project has ballooned to a staggering $410 million. He went more than $60 million further over budget.

“He’s floating the idea of new taxes and asking Albertans to tighten their belts, but he can’t even keep his own costs contained. This is not leadership.

“Giving the green light to luxurious MLA offices that include a rooftop garden, movie theatre and a government-only media room is not what Albertans consider fiscally responsible.

“The $60 million he went over budget on this should have been used for building new schools, reducing wait times and paying down our debt.

“If the government’s going to look at selling off public infrastructure, this should be the first thing to go.”
