Forecast Rainfall Increases River Safety Concerns

The Town is encouraging residents to be extra cautious around the river banks over the next three days as the River Forecasting Centre predicts the Highwood River is going to rise approximately 1.25 m due to rainfall in the forecast.

Although there is no concern for flooding this added rainfall is expected to increase the flow of the river to approximately 110 cubic metres per second, which can create safety concerns for recreational activities taking place in or near the river.

The Town is reminding residents to ensure their safety by refraining from all recreational activities involving the river and/or river banks such as swimming, fishing, boating or rafting.

The Town will continue to monitor the situation closely and will provide regular updates as they become available on the Town’s twitter account at @TownofHighRiver, on Facebook at www.facebook.com/highriver.ca, and through the Town website at www.highriver.ca.
