Foothills School Division Update ~ Buses Cancelled Friday March 16th

March 16 – School Buses Cancelled

UPDATE 5:30 pm – Notice to Foothills School Division (FSD) families:

Winter weather continues across the Foothills region and road conditions are rapidly declining.  Due to an expected increase in snow levels, dropping temperatures, and winds we are predicting that road conditions on Friday, March 16, 2018, will have deteriorated beyond acceptable operation levels.

School buses are cancelled for Friday, March 16. FSD will not operate morning or afternoon transportation services.  All in-town and rural routes are cancelled.  Scheduled field trips requiring transportation will also be cancelled.

Schools will remain open.  We recognize that families may rely on us to provide care and shelter for their children.  Please be aware that if you transport your child in the morning you will also be required to provide transportation home at the regular school dismissal time.

We also respect that parents have the primary role in deciding if their children will attend classes.  Safety remains a priority so please ensure you report any absences to your school.

UPDATE 12:15 pm – Road conditions in rural areas are continuing to decline as the winter storm continues.

School buses will attempt to provide afternoon transportation but delays and/or cancellations can be expected in certain areas due to local road conditions.  We will not be arranging for early bus service as we cannot expect that every home will have an adult present to receive children.

Parents who reside in rural areas are encouraged to pick up their children before the end of the day if they can safely do so.

All schools will remain open and operational.  We will continue to supervise and care for students.

Our transportation department will contact parents directly in the event that a school bus cannot safely complete its afternoon route.  The bus will return to the school where students will be supervised until alternate arrangements can be made.

We will continue to monitor weather conditions.  You can check current bus route status on our website.

March 15 7:00 am – Environment Canada is predicting our region will receive heavy snowfall mixed with freezing rain Thursday and Friday.  Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery.

Foothills School Division will continue to closely monitor local road conditions for transportation delays and/or cancellations and we will communicate with families through our website, Facebook, and Twitter pages.  Schools will remain open as long as they are safe to do so.
