Foothills School Division News: Family Literacy Day

Held annually on January 27, this national initiative raises awareness of the importance of reading and engaging in other literacy-related activities as a family. It’s a popular initiative in FSD and our schools are busy planning a variety of fun activities to encourage students and their families to learn together. Taking time every day to read or do a learning activity with children is crucial to their development, and even just 15 minutes a day can improve a child’s literacy skills dramatically!

Meantime, Literacy for Life is giving families in the M.D. of Foothills a chance to win one of four iPad minis by participating in a Family Literacy Bingo. Host locations to pick up cards include Okotoks Public Library, High River Library, Museum of the Highwood, the Millarville and Longview libraries, and the Literacy for Life Foundation office at 1204 – 10 St. SE in High River.

Foothills ATA #16 is also sponsoring Literacy for Life’s FREE skating party at the High River Rec Plex on Saturday, January 24 from 1:00 – 3:00pm. Bingo cards will also be available.
