First Responders Quick to Quell Fires

Fire 2 IMAG2125Two separate grass fires along Highway #7 west of Okotoks between 48th Street W and either side of 64th Street W started within fifteen minutes of each other.

Fire Fighters from Okotoks, Black Diamond, Turner Valley, Longview and Heritage Heights responded quickly and very efficiently.

People were evacuated from their homes and gates were opened to save cattle and horses from being trapped by the fires.

Several homes were in danger but Fire Fighters quickly doused the areas around them and all structures were saved.

Local Peace Officers also responded to the scene and kept traffic moving safely.

One lady whose home was in danger said, “There was a knock on my door and the fireman said you have 30 seconds to get out.” She fled with six of her seven pets to safety and, fortunately, her home was saved even though the flames were within 30 feet of it.

One Peace Officer told me he was in the Priddis area when the fire started and he could see the smoke from there.

All areas of the MD of Foothills is under a fire ban because the land is so very dry.

Also, smokers, please don’t throw your cigarettes out of the window.
