Ottawa – A new online tool to help people easily check on services, hours and contact information for their local RCMP detachment has been launched on rcmp.ca.
The mobile-friendly detachment locator tool includes information on 701 RCMP front-line service locations in 568 jurisdictions from coast to coast to coast. It provides up-to-date, interactive maps showing the detachment boundaries and photos of nearly every location.
“This is a major step forward and will make it much easier for the people we serve to find information about their local detachment,” A/Commr. Marion Lamothe, head of the Public Affairs Branch, said.
“With more than 600,000 rows of data code to store the jurisdictional boundaries, building the tool was a large, complex project that we are very proud to launch.”
Every detachment listing includes contact information and more than half list services provided such as fingerprinting, criminal record checks or vulnerable sector checks, for example. Each detachment page also features a feed of the provincial RCMP news releases.
The locator tool can be found on the landing page of rcmp.ca and on each province’s RCMP site. When you click on the page, it will automatically list the closest detachments. Users can search by postal code or alphabetically by province.
Work will continue with the expansion of information for some detachments and adding geo-locating for mobile platforms.
