Edmonton, AB – Edmontonians love their BBQ! It’s why the inaugural Porkapalooza BBQ Festival was a sizzling success and why Alberta Pork is doing it again this Father’s Day weekend!
“We thought we’d get 10,000 people last year but 25,000 showed up, over double our expected numbers,” said Karen Gurba, marketing manager for Alberta Pork. “With that kind of response, we had to do it again, only bigger and better!”
From June 19-21, talented BBQ teams from four provinces will take part in the 2nd Annual Porkapalooza BBQ Festival, cooking and smoking their hearts out for over $16,000 in cash and prizes – one of the biggest purses in the country.
A FRIDAY NIGHT of ribs, rockabilly & thirst quenchers
Billed as “A Big Meat Up”, the festival moves this year from Hawrelak Park to the newly renovated Borden Park; it’s a 2 ½ day festival now, starting with a Bare Bones Ribfest on Friday night in the Entertainment Area (beer gardens). For a $10 admission fee people can purchase mouth-watering ribs by the bone from six BBQ vendors. Non-stop rockabilly music from Edmonton’s Sam’s Spades will keep the crowd entertained from 5:00 – 10:00 p.m. while Big Rock quenches their thirst. All ages are welcome.
