Edible and Medicinal Weeds of Glenbow

Please Pre-Register for this program being presented on Sunday, August 24, 2014 from 1:00 to 3:00pm.

This is a guided walk so wear comfortable shoes.

We see them everyday, as we drive by or walk right past their flowers, seedheads, and leaves. We curse them as we work tirelessly to pull them out of our gardens and lawns. They are called weeds, but what is so significant about them? Can we put them to use instead of wasting all those garden weeds? Well, now is a chance to put them to use on your dinner table!

In this course, we will take you on a guided walk to show you some of the most common wild weeds found on our park and elsewhere in the city. You will become educated in some of the interesting history that lies behind these weedy plants, and their edible and medicinal uses with current studies and research. From wild quinoa, to mustard and ancient lettuce, you might be surprised to know what is growing in your own backyard. Be prepared for a fascinating journey into the world of weeds, and wait — don’t throw away that dandelion!
