Dreaming of Little Free Libraries in Vulcan

Story_LittleFreeLibraryYou may have seen Little Free Libraries pop up in your neighbourhood. These waterproof boxes, often colourful and lovingly maintained by their owners, offer free books to children and adults of all ages. More importantly, they build a sense of community by promoting literacy and serving as “take a book, leave a book” gathering places for neighbours. Now, several organizations in the Town of Vulcan (a recent Alberta’s Promise Community Partner) are seeking funding and book donations to bring Little Free Libraries into the community.

Vulcan Library, Champion Library, and Vulcan County Early Childhood Development Coalition have banded together to support the Little Free Libraries project in Vulcan County. Donations of children’s books and $5000 are required to install 20 neighbourhood book stops throughout the community. If your business would like to support this great community project, please contact Kim Daniells, Resource Coordinator at Vulcan_eccoalition@hotmail.com.
