Concrete Action Needed on Energy Development

EDMONTON, AB – Premiers acknowledging the importance of the energy sector is positive, but today’s agreement falls short in assuring the development of critical pipeline projects, the Wildrose Official Opposition said.

“I’m pleased that all premiers were able to come together and acknowledge the important contribution the energy sector makes to Canada’s economy,” Wildrose Leader Brian Jean said. “Here in Alberta, we know the importance of the energy industry to the Canadian economy. However, we were hoping to see more details on actually advancing Alberta’s energy interests through critical pipeline projects.”

Wildrose Shadow Energy Minister Leela Aheer said she’s proud the Canada’s premiers came to a consensus at their annual meeting about the importance of the energy sector, but said she was looking for more leadership defending Alberta’s interests at the event.

“I’m disappointed the premier of Canada’s largest energy producing province created conflict with some of our closest provincial partners on energy development,” Aheer said. “While the communique is a nice blueprint for our energy industry, our premier should have stood taller for specific projects like Energy East.”
