Cochrane RCMP – Fatal Motorcycle Collision


Cochrane, Alberta – On July 7th 2016, at approximately 10:00 PM Cochrane RCMP and Emergency Services responded to a collision involving two motorcycles and a deer. The collision occurred on Lochend Road just south of Township Road 280 in Rocky View County.

The two motorcycles had been travelling south on Lochend Road when a deer jumped in front of the first motorcycle causing the driver to hit the deer.  The second motorcycle was also unable to avoid collision.  The driver of the first motorcycle, a 67 year old Calgary male, was pronounced deceased on the scene.  The second driver, a 33 year old Calgary male, was taken by ambulance to the Foothills Medical Centre for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.  Both motorcycles were travelling together.

Witness accounts indicate that speed was not a factor nor was alcohol.  The road conditions were dry and clear at the time of the collision.

The collision is still under investigation and no names will be released at this time.
