Citizens On Patrol Foil Mischief Spree


Airdrie, Alberta – On Saturday, January 17th, 2015, and approximately 1150 p.m., Airdrie RCMP members were alerted by two members of Airdrie Citizens on Patrol (COP) of a lone male walking on Railway Avenue damaging vehicles.

COP members followed the male, providing constant updates to RCMP. RCMP arrived on scene and arrested the male.

Ryan James TRAFFORD, 21, of Airdrie, has been charged with 14 counts of mischief relating to multiple damaged vehicles.

Airdrie COP is a volunteer organization which assists frontline RCMP members by patrolling in their personal vehicles and reporting suspicious activity to members. COP members are equipped with a police radio, and have monthly meetings at the Airdrie Detachment. COP also provides assistance with public events such as the Airdrie Canada Parade and New Year’s Eve Fireworks and the Airdrie Santa Claus Parade.
