ATB Financial’s “Adopt-a-Camper” Campaign brings Christmas cheer
Calgary, AB – For more than 30 years, Easter Seals Camp Horizon has been the home away from home for 60 adults with physical and developmental disabilities fromDecember 23 to 26. In preparation for the holidays, staff and customers from ATB Financial branches have filled Christmas hampers for each camper through their “Adopt-a-Camper” Campaign.
Easter Seals Camp Horizon’s Christmas program includes hay rides, spa treatments, karaoke, giant jenga, bowling, adaptive sledding, baking, crafts, bonfires – and of course a visit by Santa himself, Christmas morning. The event is made possible by a team of volunteers, along with our amazing camp staff. Camper smiles and joy are infectious, reminding us of what’s really important this time of year.
“We’re looking forward to this year’s Christmas Camp. It’s truly a unique and inspiring event, where volunteers spend their holidays helping others, and campers with disabilities celebrate the most festive time of year with friends,” said Anna Garcia, Director of Operations at Easter Seals Camp Horizon. “There’s nowhere else these adults would rather be during the holidays. For many, it’s the only place they can go when group homes are quiet while personal support workers take much deserved Christmas holidays.”
The overwhelming support and generosity from the staff at ATB Financial branches in Calgary provides gifts for each camper on Christmas morning.
“Easter Seals Camp Horizon is one of the most special places on Earth,” said Craig Hampson, ATB Financial’s Vice-President, Calgary South. “The camp’s guests are able to feel independence and a sense of belonging every time they visit. Our donation today is one of several ways we support Camp Horizon, from participating in the annual Drop Zone event to volunteering to build bunk beds in the dorms. Our team members are very passionate about contributing to Camp Horizon any way they can.”
Easter Seals Christmas Camp recruits volunteers from across Canada to spend their holiday time with people most in need. In return, they’re rewarded with a memorable and magical experience.
