Charity Check Stop Checking for Okotoks Community Donors

The 8th Annual Charity Check Stop will be held on December 9, 2014, 2 pm to 4 pm on Milligan Drive at Okotoks Drive in Okotoks, Alberta.  Emergency Services personnel from the community, including Okotoks Municipal Enforcement, Okotoks RCMP, Okotoks Fire Department, and Foothills Victim Services will be involved in collecting food, unwrapped toys, and/or monetary donations from the travelling public.

100% of the proceeds of the Charity Check Stop are directed to the Okotoks Food Bank and Rowan House Emergency Shelter.  Both of these local charities are very worthy recipients of the public’s support.  In 2013 the Check Stop raised almost $5000 as well as three pickup trucks full of food donations.  The challenge for this year is to surpass last year’s level of donations.

All too often the Emergency Services workers have to deal with people in distress and in difficult situations.  This Check Stop will give an opportunity for the public to meet Emergency Services personnel in a very positive setting, with everyone working towards helping those in need this holiday season.

Although this is a Charity Check Stop, it should be noted that offenders encountered during this event will be dealt with as prescribed by law.  December is Impaired Driving month as part of the Alberta Traffic Safety Plan, and the focus of law enforcement is to eliminate all impaired drivers from the streets and highways of Alberta.

Along with the RCMP Safety Bear, there may even be a jolly old fellow in a red suit on hand to greet and thank the generous donors. All Emergency Services will have their respective emergency vehicles on hand for viewing and safety.
