Canmore RCMP Investigate climbing fatality

Heart Creek Canyon, Alberta – On August 5, 2016 at 3:00 p.m., Canmore RCMP responded to a complaint that 42-year-old male climber had fallen approximately 22 metres at Heart Creek Canyon.

RCMP members with partner agencies; Kananaskis Emergency Services, Conservation Officers, EMS, and Exshaw Fire, located the male, who was in critical condition.  The injured climber was slung via helicopter to the trail head then to a Calgary medical centre via STARS air ambulance.  The male, from Calgary, succumbed to his injuries later in the evening on August 5.

The RCMP are still investigating the accident in conjunction with the Calgary Medical Examiner’s Office, consequently, there is no further information available at this time.  The name of the deceased male will not be released by the RCMP.
