Canadians Recognize Most Beloved Small Businesses

Canada’s Small Business Saturday 2015 is October 24

Toronto – Small Business Saturday is just around the corner and to celebrate, the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) is recognizing Canada’s most-loved small businesses.

Zucchini-Blossom-Review-21Winnipeg’s Chocolatier Constance Popp received the most votes across Canada and joins Island Hill Farm in Charlottetown, Merchant of Tennis in Toronto and Zucchini Blossom in Medicine Hat as the most loved small businesses in Canada and winners of CFIB’s #SmallBizLove contest.

“It is terrific to see such a diverse range of businesses being embraced by Canadians,” said CFIB president Dan Kelly.  “These small businesses are at the heart of their communities, and their contributions are reflected in the strong relationships and support they have with their customers.”

Each winning business will be part of a specialized marketing campaign and will be uniquely profiled leading up to CFIB’s Small Business Saturday on October 24th.  “I’m so pleased we’re able to profile these fantastic entrepreneurs with online videos about their unique journey and their deep connection to their local community,” Kelly added.

Small Business Saturday is designed to encourage Canadians to support local small businesses and recognize their massive contributions to our country.

The #SmallBiz Love contest ran from June 10 to June 22.  Hundreds of businesses across Canada received thousands of mentions over Twitter and Instagram.  Twenty-four lucky customers were awarded $500 shopping sprees as part of the contest.

The contest was an initiative of shopsmallbiz.ca, Canada’s only business directory exclusively for small, independent businesses, and was brought to you by CFIB in partnership withInterac.  Canadians are encouraged to visit shopsmallbiz.ca to find small businesses in their area.

CFIB is Canada’s largest association of small- and medium-sized businesses with 109,000 members across every sector and region.
