Rocky View County, ABFrom the time Maguire Blair could walk he has been involved in the feeding, preparation and marketing of his family’s Angus and Simmental cattle. That involvement has earned him the 2016 Junior Angus Stockman Award.

In addition to involvement with Blair’s West Land & Cattle, his family’s operation near Drake, Saskatchewan, Blair has developed his own herd of purebred Angus cattle. He makes all the breeding decisions for his females, and has been slowly expanding his herd through female purchases and embryo transfer. He also plays junior hockey with the Prince Albert Mintos Blair’s future plans include attending Lakeland College in Vermilion majoring in animal science and crop technology.

Blair has been very active through 4-H and junior programs and attends 10-12 shows each year across western Canada. He has earned many awards for his skills in grooming and showmanship and has also exhibited high quality breeding stock. This past year, Blair’s cow Bar-E-L Erica 74A was the most dominant show female in Canada. Blair and Erica dominated every show attended including winning championships at Showdown, Lloydminster Stockade National Angus show, Brandon Ag Ex, Farmfair and Agribition. The Junior Angus Stockman of the Year Award is a recent initiative of the Canadian Angus Foundation. This award was introduced last year to recognize those outstanding young cattlemen who are constantly growing their stockmanship capability by actively working with their Angus cattle. Blair received the award at the Canadian Junior Angus Association Showdown banquet Saturday night in Truro, NS.
The Canadian Angus Foundation was incorporated in 1993 and is the charitable arm of the Canadian Angus Association.
