We are excited to announce that Wounded Warriors Canada is going to be the official charity of Team Simmons for the 2015-2016 curling season.
We have some exciting plans to raise awareness for this cause so look out for those while watching Team Simmons throughout the winter and make sure you participate when you can.
The main reason that we wanted to work with Wounded Warriors Canada was due to our entire team’s affection for the military and to honour the sacrifices our military men and women makeacross this globe. We are so lucky here in Canada to have the highly respected military that we do. Canada is often one of the first countries called upon and our military personnel can and do suffer injuries while defending freedom. Injuries for those in service can come in many forms, physical and mental. WWC has programs to assist and improve the quality of life for veterans who were injured while serving our country.
Our entire team feels strongly that our military veterans, and their families, deserve more support and that is the mission statement of Wounded Warriors Canada. WWC is a non-profit organization that supports Canada’s ill and injured Canadian Armed Forces members, Veterans and their families. WWC’s services and programs are not just for those returning from the conflict in Afghanistan, but support any veteran from other past missions like Rwanda, Haiti, Bosnia and those injured here at home.
A few years ago my family was a part of a program here in Edmonton where we were a host family for a service dog in training. We helped socialize the dog by taking him with us wherever we went when he was not in school. While we had our dog I started to read up on the various situations where service dogs are put into use. I was surprised to find out these dogs are placed with some military veterans who have PTSD. These types of service dogs are just one of the many ways that WWCsupports veterans as you will see in this link.
So make sure you check out the website for WWC and follow them on Twitter and Facebook. Please Donate, as we are, this season we are donating a percentage of our Grand Slam of Curling earnings to WWC. So each game we win during the Grand Slam series events, it is more money for the Wounded Warriors Canada cause. It is an excellent cause and one that our team is super excited to support Wounded Warriors Canada this season.
