Canada Day at the Alberta Legislature

Canada Day at the Alberta Legislature is a celebration of our nation’s 148th birthday. The event will honour our province’s place in Canada’s history and highlight our diversity with a day of activities and entertainment for all ages.

“Canada Day serves as a reminder to all of us of our good fortune as a nation and as Albertans,” said the Honourable Robert E. Wanner, Speaker of the Alberta Legislative Assembly. “Everyone is invited to the Alberta Legislature on Canada Day to celebrate all the things that make our great nation united, strong and free.”

CANADA DAY: ALBERTA STYLE!

This year’s Canada Day stage programming will run from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. There will be three main performance areas and over 20 live acts to enjoy. Some of Alberta’s top music and dance talent will grace the Alberta Diversity and Alberta Discovered stages. The Alberta Family fun zone will offer music, comedy, puppetry, arts and crafts and more.

Roving performers will help keep everyone entertained and close to 40 food vendors will be stationed throughout the grounds. An exhibit of military gear and vehicles hosted by the Lord Strathcona’s Horse will also be featured.

OPEN HOUSE

The 21-gun salute will take place on the west side of the Building at noon and will lead into the Canada Day welcome ceremony on the front steps where the Royal Canadian Artillery Band will perform their signature musical program.

Legislature Building (12:30 to 5:00 p.m.) – During the open house, visitors will have a chance to explore at their leisure; they can discover more about the building’s iconic architecture and check out where their MLA sits as they walk the Chamber floor – an honour reserved for citizens only on Canada Day.

Visitor Centre (12:30 to 5:00 p.m.) – The Visitor Centre is located on the main floor of the historical Edmonton Federal Building; featured spaces are the Pehonan Theatre, the Agora Interpretive Centre and the Alberta Branded retail store.

Public transportation to the grounds is recommended as parking is limited. A free bicycle lot courtesy of the Edmonton Bicycle Commuters’ Society will be available.
