It’s time to break ground on the Millarville Community School Naturalization Project… aka Garden! Mark your calendars…. Saturday, May 23rd. The goal of this permablitz is to remove the sod, survey and dig the swales (water ditches), and spread new topsoil, manure, and ground cover. But…. What is a Permablitz?
Permablitz (noun): An informal gathering, involving a group of people who come together to achieve the following:
* create or add to edible gardens
* share skills related to permaculture and sustainable living
* build community
* have fun
Permablitzes are free events, open to the public, with free workshops, shared food, where you get some exercise and have a wonderful time. To be defined as a permablitz each event must also be preceded by a permaculture design by a designer with a Permaculture Design Certificate.
This event is limited to 25 people. More information and registration at:
Luke Kimmel, of the Leaf Ninjas, has provided us a design and will facilitate the day. The overall vision is to transform the area into a no maintenance, NATURAL outdoor classroom and community space. Items included in the design are: dry creek beds and walking paths utilizing the rainwater from the school rooftop, food forest (edible plant species), bug and butterfly garden, and an area for a class to sit.
