Todd Schmekel, Assistant Superintendent of Learning Services (left), thanks Calgary TELUS Community Ambassadors Garry McIvor and Lesley Ritchie for the group’s generous donation of hundreds of backpacks
Christmas arrived early at Foothills School Division on July 31st in the form of Calgary TELUS Community Ambassadors Lesley Ritchie and Garry McIvor, who delivered 22 apple boxes containing more than 130 backpacks filled with basic school supplies for some of our schools that have requested support. The group has been a generous donor of backpacks for FSD families in need through its “Kits for Kids” program for several years running.
TELUS has a large pool of retirees and team members who are passionate about volunteering in the communities where they live, work and serve. More than 3,000 current, former and retired TELUS team members volunteer as TELUS Community Ambassadors in 23 clubs in communities across B.C., Alberta, Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic Canada. Since 2007, TELUS Community Ambassadors have assembled and donated almost 40,000 Kits for Kids. These backpacks are filled with basic school supplies and distributed to inner city schools across Canada.
The Calgary TELUS Community Ambassadors actively support community events throughout the city and surrounding areas, volunteering their time sewing Heart Pillows, making blankets for the homeless, knitting items for premature babies at the Alberta Children’s Hospital and, of course, assembling Kits for Kids!
FSD thanks you!
