On February 26, Blackie School’s Grade 5/6 class conducted presentations on four charitable organizations that that they wanted to obtain donations of money, goods and services for. What started out as a social inquiry project has snowballed into an enormous learning experience, helping students develop a sense of democracy, community service, global citizenship and understanding of the value of “paying it forward”. Students worked collaboratively to research, understand and support a charitable organization of their choosing. Ultimately, the students chose four commendable organizations to research and support: The Water Project, the World Wildlife Federation – Leatherback Sea Turtle project, the Canadian Tire Jumpstart© program, and High River’s Heaven Can Wait animal shelter.
