Beakerhead takes place all over Calgary September 10 to 14, 2014
Have you noticed some new artwork or some colourful people or creatures moving into Calgary? Art meets science and creativity is the outcome. Check out the 2nd annual Beakerhead event in Calgary.
Little Big Street: FREE event organized by: Beakerhead
Wednesday, September 10 to Sunday, September 14, 9:00 am – 8:00 pm, Sunday closing at 2:00 pm
A human-sized nest, a plastic bubble meeting room, a 90-square-foot home, an inflatable giant lotus and other interactive structures, all in a miniature neighbourhood with a fire-breathing gnome — what kind of a creatively engineered wonder world is this?
Art meets engineering in this playful place where everyone can learn from creative problem-solvers. Each element will reveal, in an entertaining way, the engineering and science of solving social and environmental challenges. Stop by after work to explore the dozen or so structures and take in a talk or musical performance. Unwind and get inspired all at once in this off-the-beaten-track treat. Food trucks and a cellphone charging station created by Beakerhead Summer Intensive high school students will be on site during peak periods.
On the weekend, a special Sunday brunch with food trucks and music will have you and your family dancing in the street. This is a little place with big ideas, and a wide-open welcoming arch. Feel free to talk to the artists, engineers and other experts on hand all week. Don’t be shy — a giant, fire-breathing garden gnome will greet you to burn off any reluctance!
Art Cars in Downtown Calgary

What is Beakerhead?
On the surface, Beakerhead looks like a week of spectacular fun every September. But it’s more than a schedule of mesmerizing events: it’s a time and place where engineers show their creative sides, and artists get technical, where science hits the street, and everyone gets ingenious.
