EDMONTON, Alberta – ATCO Gas announced funding in support of the Eden Valley Community Cadet Corps, a community-based service for at-risk youth, offering a wide variety of activities to youth between the ages of 12 – 18 years.

“ATCO Gas is pleased to support this program that engages youth, at a critical time in their lives, in leadership development and training for essential life skills,” said Bill Stephens, President, ATCO Gas. “The Cadet Corps is instrumental in helping shape the values of youth in the community and fostering positive lifestyle choices.”

“The Cadet Corps is a preventative program that keeps kids busy learning new skills and teaches the importance of community service,” said Cst. Jason Barber, Turner Valley RCMP, who notes that the cadets recently participated in and assisted with the local Remembrance Day ceremony. “Aside from high school sports, there are no other activities available to these kids, particularly the younger ones. Teachers tell us that they’re seeing a correlation between being a cadet and working harder at school.”

The Eden Valley Community Cadet Corps focuses on military drills, leadership training, sports, cultural activities and wilderness experience. Now in its second year of operation, the program is supported, organized and run by the Turner Valley RCMP. ATCO companies have partnered with other similar cadet-style programs across Alberta to deliver positive experiences for youth and support the development of tomorrow’s leaders.
