ASIRT Investigates RCMP Officer-Involved Shooting near Fox Creek

 

On June 30, 2015, the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) was directed by the Director of Law Enforcement to investigate a Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer-involved shooting near Fox Creek, Alberta.

At approximately 1:50 a.m. on Tuesday, June 30th, 2015, Fox Creek RCMP members responded to a serious incident involving a man armed with a weapon. RCMP members attended the scene and located two deceased persons.

Shortly thereafter, RCMP members encountered a lone man armed with a weapon. A confrontation occurred that resulted in the man being shot resulting in serious injury. The 28 year old man was transported to Edmonton by STARS air ambulance for emergency medical attention. He remains in serious condition in hospital.

ASIRT’s investigation will focus on the circumstances surrounding the shooting of the armed man. ASIRT’s mandate is to effectively, independently, and objectively investigate incidents involving Alberta’s police that have resulted in serious in jury or death to any person, as well as serious or sensitive allegations of police misconduct.

ASIRT’s investigation is in its very early stages and as such, there will be no further comment until the investigation is complete.

RCMP Major Crimes retains responsibility for the investigation into the deaths of the two individuals at the camp.
