Anyone Can Climb This Mountain!

In 2012/2013, Kevin Papke a local businessman, took his passion for climbing to new heights as he raised over $160,000 in support of Bethany’s seniors and in honour of his father Cec Papke, who was diagnosed with dementia. Kevin along with his family watched as the debilitating condition increasingly affected his father. He wanted to help other seniors and their families that experienced the same cognitive impairment and so he pledged to summit 50 peaks in his 50th year. Cec Papke passed away in 2009. “I miss him every day, so Summits for Seniors is for him,” says Kevin Papke.

Carrying on the tradition of Kevin Papke’s Summits for Seniors, Bethany Care Foundation is excited to launch Summits for Seniors II, where anyone can climb this mountain!

Join the Honourable Dave Rodney, Associate Minister of Wellness, MLA Calgary-Lougheed and the 1st Canadian to summit Mount Everest twice, to take on Devil’s Thumb in the iconic Alberta Rockies on Saturday, September 27, 2014.

Summits for Seniors II also features individual or a team climbs that you can do on your own and fundraise in support of Bethany. Simply pick your peak and date and post it on Bethany’s fundraising website at http://raiseathon.ca/summits.

“Summits for Seniors is a great way to support seniors in our community. Participation and donations will directly impact the close to 1,800 residents who live in Bethany care centres in Airdrie, Calgary, Cochrane, Didsbury, Sylvan Lake and Red Deer,” says Dave Rodney. “I am very pleased to be part of such a unique event for such a worthwhile cause”.
