Albertans Don’t Need to be Told to ‘Settle Down’: Wildrose

EDMONTON, AB (September 21, 2015): Premier Rachel Notley needs to be listening to the concerns of Albertans and job creators instead of telling them to ‘settle down’, the Wildrose Official Opposition said today.

“Albertans are worried about jobs and the economy, and the premier should be listening to them, not talking down to them. Providing calm and steady leadership is the job of the premier and she hasn’t been doing it,” Wildrose Leader Brian Jean said. “Staying on course with a risky economic agenda based on ideology and not what’s best for the province will continue to mean less jobs in our energy sector and more Albertans looking for work.”

Finance Minister Joe Ceci has already announced the government is banking on royalties to be increased in the future.

In the past month alone, the NDP have floated even more tax increases, including a carbon tax and a tax on vehicles, after already raising business and personal taxes.

Wildrose Shadow Energy Minister Leela Aheer said the government can’t continue to keeping raising taxes and increasing regulations without doing damage to Alberta’s job creators.

“With a government insisting on bringing forward ideological policies that discourage growth, Albertans are looking for some kind of sign that their government is actually listening,” Aheer said. “The NDP and Ms. Notley need to begin to recognize the damage their policies are having and bring forward a more moderate and sensible approach.”
