Alberta RCMP Charge Sheriff with Dangerous Driving

 

Edson, Alberta – The RCMP have charged an Alberta Traffic Sheriff with four counts of Dangerous Driving under the Criminal Code of Canada, and two counts of Driving at an Unreasonable Rate of Speed under the province’s Traffic Safety Act.  The charges relate to six separate on-duty driving offences occurring between May and October 2015 on highways in the Edson and Jasper area.

The charges result from an October 2015 internal review of operations by Alberta Traffic Sheriff Operations. Irregularities noted in that review were forwarded to the RCMP for investigation. No accidents or injuries arose from any of the alleged offences. The Traffic Sheriff was working out of Edson at the time of the offences as part of an integrated traffic enforcement unit with the RCMP.

Charged is Sean Myher, of Edson, Alberta with:

  • Dangerous Driving, Section 249 (1)(a) Criminal Code, Offence Date: May 19, 2015, near Edson.
  • Dangerous Driving, Section 249 (1)(a) Criminal Code, Offence Date: August 13, 2015, near Jasper.
  • Dangerous Driving, Section 249 (1)(a) Criminal Code, Offence Date: September 2, 2015, near Edson.
  • Dangerous Driving, Section 249 (1)(a) Criminal Code, Offence Date: October 23, 2015, near Edson.
  • Drive at an Unreasonable Rate of Speed, Section 2 (1)(a) Traffic Safety Act, Offence Date: September 18, 2015, near Edson.
  • Drive at an Unreasonable Rate of Speed, Section 2 (1)(a) Traffic Safety Act, Offence Date: September 28, 2015, near Edson.

Sean Myher will appear on all charges in Edson Provincial Court on March 15, 2016 at 10:00 a.m.
