EDMONTON, AB (November 6, 2015): Statistics Canada has released their Labour Force Survey for October 2015, and the numbers for Alberta show the ongoing impact of the NDP’s risky economic agenda, the Wildrose Official Opposition said today.
Employment increased across Canada by 44,000 in October, while in Alberta unemployment fell by 11,000.
“This large amount of unemployed Albertans are being forced to adjust their spending and wonder if they’ll be able to pay their bills at the end of the month,” Wildrose Leader Brian Jean said. “The NDP budget is only making a bad situation even worse by piling on record debt, raising everyone’s taxes, and plunging ahead with an ideological agenda against jobs and our energy industry. Without reversing course, it will only add to the concerning job loss trends taking place in our province.”
The NDP budget solution to Alberta jobs losses is a subsidy program that doesn’t do anything until 2017, when a reduction in the small business tax rate would have a far greater impact.
“This NDP government is out of tune with the economic turmoil our province is in,” Wildrose Shadow Jobs Minister Hunter said. “After losing 65,000 jobs in the first two-thirds of the year, this update shows the bleeding is getting worse, not better.”
