Alberta Education Minister assured CBE busing situation being addressed

Alberta Education Minister David Eggen has received assurances from the Calgary Board of Education that efforts are being made to adjust yellow school bus service in response to concerns from parents.

Minister Eggen was informed by CBE Board Chair Joy Bowen-Eyre that she and fellow board members will review information at a scheduled September 15 meeting outlining plans to enhance service.

“I’m glad the Calgary Board of Education is taking steps to respond to concerns of parents, many of whom have reached out to me personally. I continue to encourage the board to work swiftly to address the concerns of parents.”

More information will be posted on the board’s website Friday, in advance of their meeting.

The CBE is responsible for transporting more than 38,000 students by bus daily. Of those, 25,000 students ride yellow buses served by 745 routes.

Chair Bowen-Eyre and Minister Eggen have agreed to continue conversations around transportation funding during a pre-planned meeting between the metro school boards and Minister in October.
