Airdrie, Alberta – The Airdrie RCMP have responded to four complaints in 24 hours of a “Hard Luck Story” scam within the City of Airdrie.
In all incidents, a female approached customers at local coffee shops and gas stations, presented a story of emergency, and requested money offering to pay back the individual double when they returned.
In one instance the female mentioned the names of two local RCMP Officers, stating she had been in a collision that day and had been interacting with the officers. The statement was verified to be false.
Later that evening the female alleged to have been involved in a domestic dispute and required assistance.
The RCMP would like to remind the public to be cautious when being approached randomly by individuals requesting money.
The RCMP would also like to state any person finding themselves in an emergency situation should call the Airdrie RCMP at 403-945-7267 (RCMP), or 911.
Police, Fire and Medical services can be accessed through a 911 call, and appropriate Community Supports can be accessed through the RCMP and its Community Partners.
