“What a wonderful way to begin my new role as Minister by meeting with these exceptional kids and learning about their concerns, as well as their solutions, to our environmental challenges.”
~ Shannon Phillips, Minister of Environment and Parks
In addition to discussing their ideas regarding Alberta’s environmental future with Minister Phillips at Capilano Park, the ministers enjoyed a tour of the Legislature and a nature hike.
The students also experienced water and waste management first hand, as they visited the Epcor Waste Water Treatment Plant, and finished the day with an excursion on the river lead by River Watch that involved actual water testing.
Minister for the Day is an environmental education program to support the Grade 5 curriculum in Alberta schools. Students are challenged to share their ideas on how Albertans can become better stewards of the environment. Minister for the Day is part of Alberta’s Environment Week celebrations that took place this year from May 31 to June 6.
