Alberta Promotes Energy and Climate Strategy with U.S. Partners

Cameron Westhead, MLA for Banff-Cochrane, will attend the Council of State Governments (CSG) Midwest Energy Subcommittee meeting June 3-4 in Minneapolis, Minn.

Discussions at the Energy Subcommittee meeting will focus on hydropower, electricity interchange between Canada and the United States, electrical system load balancing and integration of renewables into energy grids.

“Discussing North American energy strategies with some of our largest trading partners means we can share Alberta’s expertise and learn from experiences in other jurisdictions. It’s a chance to tell our biggest energy customers first-hand about our Climate Leadership Plan and energy innovation programs, and to show that Alberta is a great place to do business.”

Cameron Westhead, MLA Banff-Cochrane

CSG Midwest, also known as the Midwestern Legislative Conference, is a regional forum that brings together legislators and government leaders from 11 states (Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin) and four Canadian provinces (Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario and Saskatchewan). CSG is a non-profit organization that provides state and provincial lawmakers an opportunity to share best policy practices and discuss regional issues.

The U.S. Midwest is one of the most important export regions for Alberta, accounting for 52.5 per cent of all Alberta exports to the U.S. in 2015.

The estimated cost for MLA Westhead’s trip to Minneapolis including travel, meals and accommodation, is $2,260.
