On 2016 May 14 at approximately 9:30 p.m. RCMP members from the Coaldale Detachments along with Lethbridge Fire/EMS were dispatched to a rear end collision between a motorcycle and a small passenger vehicle. Both vehicles were heading eastbound on Highway 512. The motorcycle was slowed or stopped attempting to turn left (north) when struck in the rear by the small car. EMS personnel transported the motorcycle driver, a 47 year old male Lethbridge resident to the Lethbridge Hospital in grave condition. He was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.
The driver of the small car, an 18 year old female, was also taken to the Lethbridge Hospital although her injuries were not deemed serious.
The Coaldale RCMP are presently investigating this collision. The highway was impassable for about 6 hours to allow a RCMP collision reconstruction specialist to complete their investigation. All possible contributing factors related to this collision are being considered and this collision remains under investigation. No charges have been laid at this time.

With the permission of the family, Robert Gary KERN of Lethbridge, Alberta is the deceased motorcycle driver in this collision.
