C. Ian McLaren Students Win Silver at APEGA Science Olympics

CIM Cougars win Silver
Some of the C. Ian McLaren Cougars with their well-deserved award

Foothills School Division Trustee Jeannine Tucker applauded a team of grade 5 and 6 C. Ian McLaren students on winning an overall Silver Award at this science competition for grade 1-12 students held annually in Calgary. Under the guidance of teacher Jason Ash, students J.B., Makayla Brown, Ryan Nielsen, Connor Poyhia, Sven Goplen, and Umar Zia took part in three challenges over the course of the morning: “build it at home” where they used hydro power to lift a certain amount of weight, and two “mystery” events revealed upon their arrival at the University of Calgary, where they had to use their knowledge of light and shadows, and buoyancy. Way to go Cougars!
