RCMP Banff Seeks Public’s Help to Identify Assault Suspect- Update#1

Banff RCMP have been identify the suspect and have laid a charge in connection to the Assault in Banff on March 2.

Brian LAFRENIERE, a 26 year old male of Belle River, ON, has been charged with the following:

  • One Count of Assault Causing Bodily Harm

A Warrant of Arrest for the Province of Alberta has been issued.

Banff RCMP would like to thank both the residents of the Bow Valley and the media for their assistance with the identification of this person.

Original Release March 2, 2016 at 1:15 p.m.

On March 2nd, 2016, at approximately 1:41 a.m., Banff RCMP received a complaint of an assault in the west alley of the 200 Block of Banff Avenue in the Town of Banff. It’s alleged that an altercation between the Victim and the unknown suspect occurred. The suspect then fled the scene Northbound up the alley towards Wolf Street. The Victim required medical attention and was taken to the Banff Mineral Springs Hospital.

Surveillance footage was obtained which helped Police identify a suspect by an independent witness.

The suspect is described as:

  • Caucasian;
  • Approximately 173cm (5’8”) tall;
  • Brown Hair;
  • Short facial hair;
  • Wearing a Blue and White Hoodie;
  • Wearing khaki pants;
  • Speaks with French Accent.

Banff RCMP continue to investigate the crime.

Investigators ask that anyone with information regarding this crime or the identity of the suspect contact Banff RCMP at 403.762.2226.

Missing Person Located – Strathmore RCMP Detachment
Michael UllyStrathmore, AB – On the afternoon of March 10, 2016 Strathmore RCMP received a call that a body had been discovered on the shores of the Bow River south east of Carseland, AB.
With the assistance of the Calgary Medical Examiners office, the RCMP have positively identified the remains of Michael ULLY ( 41) of Strathmore, AB
Ully was previously reported missing to the RCMP in November of 2015.  The RCMP are not looking for any suspects as the death is not believed to be suspicious.
The RCMP and family of Michael ULLY would like to sincerely thank all the members of the public, search teams and media outlets who took the time in searching for Michael and ask for their privacy during this time.
