HIGH RIVER, AB – Agriculture is an extremely important industry in Alberta and in the Highwood area, and the Alberta Party in Highwood wants to talk with citizens about it.
The Alberta Party’s Highwood Constituency Association is holding a conversation drop-in at 7:30PM on Monday, March 21, 2016 at 1906 Restaurant in High River. The “Wings and Agriculture” event is open to anyone and everyone who wants to talk about Agriculture in Alberta.
“Our first conversation topic is Agriculture, as it is a $13 billion industry, with both primary and value-added aspects, and is a huge part of our area,” said Joel Windsor, President of the association.
The event is the first of many engagement sessions the Alberta Party Highwood Constituency Association will be hosting, according to Windsor.
“The Alberta Party firmly believes in listening and researching first, before presenting ideas,” said Windsor, adding that is not the habit of neither the current nor the former government in Alberta.
“Bill 6 is a perfect example of how important it is for political representatives to listen first, understand, then move forward. We’re working to do that.”
Windsor added that consultation with area residents resulted directly in adjustments to other legislation last sitting, having submitted amendments to Bill 5 on sunshine lists and Bill 8 on teacher-employer bargaining.
“Our amendments were taken, in one case word-for-word,” said Windsor.
“That indicates consultation pays off. It also indicates the Alberta Party is effective even when their work is from the sidelines.”
The association held its Annual General Meeting last month with Alberta Party Leader Greg Clark in attendance. Clark is regarded as a very effective opposition, despite being the only elected Alberta Party MLA.
“We’re hoping to improve upon that in 2019, but in the meantime we won’t stop speaking for Highwood,” said Windsor.
“At that time it was determined that the best way to move forward was to combine engagement with our regular meetings,” said Windsor, adding those that are interested in being involved in the party can come a little earlier to meet the members.
