Calgary’s Field of Crosses

crossesThere is a park reserved along Calgary’s Memorial Drive for 3,000 white crosses which are displayed each year on November 1st and removed November 12th. Each cross is inscribed with the name, rank, regiment, date of death and age at death of a Southern Alberta soldier killed in action. The Canadian Legacy Project is thrilled to lend our support to the Field of Crosses Memorial Project.

At sunrise each morning from November 1 to November 11 there is a formal flag raising ceremony at the Field of Crosses. As part of these ceremonies local schools participate in the singing of our national anthem. After the official ceremonies the McCann Family Foundation hosts a breakfast for the children along with our participating veterans. This interaction has proven to be very successful in educating our youth of the sacrifices made by our veterans.
