Turner Valley School News: Hopping into Spring

March is here and the year is flying by at Turner Valley School. February was a busy month with many activities on the go for staff and students alike. We are looking forward to our second round of student-led conferences on March 8th & 9th and will be issuing learner profile reports on March 24th. We are committed to having our students demonstrate their learning throughout the year and we hope all parents are able to participate. We also invite parents to contact their student’s teacher at any time to discuss their child’s education if they feel a need.

During the Family Day break in February, staff engaged in a professional development day in collaboration with the staff of Longview and Cayley schools: the focus on this day was to continue refining our TRIP and MaRTI programs. Teachers also attended Teacher’s Convention during this week.

There were many exciting events in our school over the last month. TVS’s second annual French Carnival was a huge success; what a great way to instill an appreciation for culture and language! We would like to express our appreciation for all the organizers and helpers on that day, and hope to continue the tradition for all Grades 3 to 6 next year as well. Also in the last month the Grade 6 basketball team finished a very successful season; they did a great job of improving their skills and showed teamwork and sportsmanship on the court. The buzz now moves towards our annual Grade 4, 5 and 6 ski trip coming on March 4th. In addition our actors, actresses and teachers have been working hard on the spring theatre production. Mark your calendar as April 28th and 29th are the big show dates.

As always we would like to thank all members of our school community for everything you do for our students and staff. Turner Valley School is a great place to be.

Yours in learning,
James Holladay and Chase Ellis
