RCMP – One Dead after Kananaskis Country Avalanche


On February 14th, 2015, at approximately 1445 hrs, Kananaskis RCMP along with Conservation Officers and Kananaskis Public Safety Specialists responded to the Mount Black Prince area for a report of a group of back country skiers that had been caught in an avalanche. Two of the victims were able to hike out to get help. The remaining three victims were airlifted by helicopter from the side of the mountain to the staging area. One of the victims, a 34 year old male from Canmore, AB, was pronounced dead at the staging area. The victim’s name is not being released at this time.

Mount Black Prince is located off of the Smith-Dorrien Highway approximately 45 km south of Canmore in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park.
