RCMP Cochrane – Shooting Range Incident

At 1500 hrs, Cochrane RCMP were called to assist EMS with a call of someone being shot in the neck in a hunting accident.

It was determined one male was wounded in the neck by his friend while they were at a shooting range on Hwy 68, 2 km’s south of Jumping Pound Creek.  The shooter fired a high-powered rifle at a metal plate from approx 30 yards which ricocheted and hit his friend in the neck. The victim was driven by friends to Hwy # 1 where they met EMS. The shooting victim was taken to Foothills Hospital and is in serious life threatening condition, and undergoing emergency surgery. The victim is expected to survive. Preliminary investigation indicates an accidental shooting, the investigation is ongoing.
