EDMONTON, AB: Wildrose Shadow Human Services Minister Angela Pitt released the following statement in response to the NDP government’s pilot daycare program:
“Wildrose recognizes that securing affordable, quality child-care services in Alberta remains a challenge for families across the province.
“It’s important we provide solutions to improve all child-care options to allow Alberta’s children to thrive and to meet the unique needs of families – especially low-income households struggling with access and affordability. Our current system has a lot of room for improvement.
“However, the pilot daycare program announced (this week) by the NDP raises questions surrounding the long-term sustainability of this new government program, where the child-care centres will be located and who will qualify. We will watch carefully to see if this program will be effective in providing sustainable and broad-based support for families.”
